And the visuals are actually pretty great, if a bit cheesy. Is it even important to re-cap the very, very simple plot? It is the plot of every Mummy movie: Europeans dig up a previously long-buried sarcophagus, and really, really bad stuff ensues.
The main even there is the breezy, well-written script and the solid casting. On the one hand you have the swarthy Brendan Fraser at the height of his career where is he now, BTW?
Its hard to imagine the same actress who played Ralph Fiennes dead wife in "The Constant Gardener" making cow eyes at Fraser, but, well, there you have it.
This film is just plain fun, unless you don't like resurrected mummies turning to sand and blowing out of hotel room windows when cute little cats are held up to them And who doesn't.
After 22 years this is still one of my favorite go-to feel-good movies. Fun all the way. Perfect casting and rivals Indiana Jones for a great retro action comedy.
One thing that makes it fun is that the Mummy is actually scary. The special effects, for the tune, were really good.
The scale is ideal for an epic adventure. Tombs, libraries, mansions, Egypt, London. The movie has one of the best lines ever in a movie line this.
Just amazing and it works perfectly. Sexy is an understatement. Rachael Weisz is funny and a dream date. Put together, and it works.
All the cast is spot-on. It has the weasel, bullish Americans, and lots of mummies! No downtime at all. Pedal to the metal action and humor.
When you need to escape from it all, this does the trick. I had Egypt on my mind a lot last year and was in a movie mood earlier this year and decided to finally watch this movie for the first time since I was thinking how I've never watched it before.
The CGI introduction could use a remaster and the movie was overall silly but it was enjoyable as a comedy action adventure type movie. It wasn't really what I had in mind it would be like and is very fictionalized of Egyptian beliefs just for fantasy purposes, but it was kind of fun and unique, truly entertaining at least.

Warm-hearted adventure, sort of a cross between Indians Jones and the Zorro movies. Not quite as good as those but still great fun.
This series is a bit more creepy with a cheesy-CGI evil mummy on the rampage to reclaim human body parts from tomb raiders.
Young kids might find it a bit scary, the older ones will easily catch on to the campy fun. It's Brendan doing what he does best: being awesome on screen.
The movie is a great testament to the power of love, and how it can also be a destructive force. This movie has withstood the test of time and is still a great flick 19 years later and more to come.
The Mummy is definitely a throwback to the old horror movies of the 40s and 50s. Thankfully updated with excellent special effects as well as humor and fast paced action.
It's an adventure movie, nothing more. Brendan Fraser is a blast to watch as dual pistol packing, attitude slapping, down to earth ex-Legionnaire who finds himself teaming up with a couple of geeky librarian siblings, one of which happens to be the beautiful Rachael Weisz.
Fraser's character is hired by the two because he has seen something no one else has, the grave site of the lost city of Hamunaptra that holds the tomb of Imhotep, a powerful high priest in the days of the greatest and richest Pharaoh.
What follows is a semi complex adventure that keeps you hanging and keeps you entertained. There are definitely some creepy moments and some aspects are intriguing, specifically the burials and rituals of the ancient Egyptians.
Some aspects are of course, stretched and unrealistic, but you can't expect Oscar material from some thing like this, who in their right mind would?
But The Mummy is a great piece of movie work and the DVD is full of extra features, so it is well worth buying.

Ancient goings on an foul deeds are discovered almost by accident by Fraser, the soldier of fortune, and together with Weisz, they have to team up and save the world against a resurrected undead Ancient Egyptian who wants some payback.
Some quite grisly special effects, demented scarabs everywhere and lots of humour along the way. This is a great way to while away the afternoon.

I not want spoilering. Great movie, i see many times before but only in and DVD. This is first time on blueray. In my stoopid country Czech Republic this movie not exist with czech subtitles, because czech distribution is lazy and stoopid.
Stop selling some movies after some times, not like in another countries. Thanks to polish distribution for this movie and more in my collection.
