View All Critic Reviews Aug 12, I was very fond of Fantastic Mr. Fox, Wes Anderson's first stop-motion animated faire. Isle of Dogs less so.

It's most certainly not a bad movie, but my expectations were pretty midling and, personally, they were not met. Gimly M Super Reviewer. But the story is really dumb, and told poorly. For some reason the film is set in a weird dystopic Japan, and there's no subtitles for the Japanese dialog.

Also, the stop-motion animation doesn't seem to add anything to the film other than to heighten its strangeness.

However, Anderson's trademark comedy comes through and delivers some good laughs. While Isle of Dogs doesn't work, it's an interesting failure. Dann M Super Reviewer.

Mar 21, Combine the quirky, vivacious humor of Wes Anderson with the gullible and fluid stop-motion animation and you've got a surprisingly heartfelt, ambitious and charming film and not to mention the canine frenzy that Isle of Dogs has to offer.

American Housewife. The Queen's Gambit. Blood of Zeus. The Mandalorian. I was so exited for the film and it really was in no way a disappointment, I thoroughly enjoyed his latest work, in fact, I might go see it twice, which is rare for me.

In the second paragraph I will discuss a little more about what exactly I liked about it, but in general this was a damn good film that demands a viewing.

Wes Anderson's style is so honed in this film despite it being animated. The use of colors and symmetry are still plainly obvious, the color and design of things very consistent giving a believable world for the film to be set in.

Each one of the characters was deeply developed and fascinating while also working off many of the other characters. The writing is sharp, intelligent, and very well written in the style of many of the other Anderson classics.

So basically if you are a fan of his style, then you will be delighted to see this movie that is the personification of Wes Anderson's style.

Added to Watchlist. From metacritic. Kurosawa often indulged in showcasing violence and death in his films, so it will be interesting to see if Isle of Dogs is marketed as a family-friendly film like most animated features.
